Region V Faculty Directing Showcase
For junior and senior faculty seeking an opportunity to challenge themselves, hone skills, develop process, mentor student directors, and engage in professional development for promotion and tenure. The “BEST DIRECTED SCENE,” selected by special guest respondents, will receive a certificate for inclusion in their professional development file. Faculty directors must submit an application with supporting materials in advance. Faculty in this program will receive a 5-minute scene no later than January 1, 2010, to direct during the festival. They will be assigned a student assistant director and a stage manager. Faculty must submit an application with all required supporting materials by December 7, 2009, in order to be considered for this opportunity.
LIMITED TO 8 PARTICIPANTS
Criteria:
1. Direct an assigned scene during the festival. The purpose is to promote good directing skills and collaboration between the director, assistant director, stage manager and actors. No sets, props or costumes; staging must be kept to entrances, exits and simple gestures. Some basics (table, chairs and rehearsal blocks) will be available.
2. Cast the scene from the talent pool of actors who choose to audition at the Festival. These auditions and casting will be in conjunction with the Festival Ten-Minute Play auditions and casting.
3. Rehearse in assigned space for 6 specified hours of rehearsal with their cast and a stage manager. Attempts to rehearse in addition to or outside the designated time will result in removal of the project from the event.
4. Perform scenes tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, “Late Night Showcase”, exact time TBA.
5. Receive a response from one or more Festival Special Guest respondents.
Faculty Directing Showcase Application Process
Selection from among the regional pool of applicants will be limited to 8 candidates. Materials will be reviewed by a team of directing professionals/educators, who will recommend a slate of participants to the Region V Executive Committee who will confirm the final list of participants. A complete application consists of:
1 - Letter of intent explaining why you want to participate and how you think the experience will benefit you and your career. Include name, all contact information, and affiliated institution.
2 - Statement of intent to attend the entire Region V Festival held in Overland Park, Kansas from January 17-23, 2010, attending the requisite meetings, auditions and rehearsals throughout the week.
3 - A resume that focuses on your training and experience in directing.

Important Reminder: Application materials must be submitted electronically and received no later than December 7, 2009. Electronic submissions of supporting materials are required. A confirmation of receipt of your application will be provided. Please do not assume your application has been received and accepted unless you receive electronic confirmation. Note that if your attachments do not open we cannot declare the submission received.
Leave enough time to make sure email submissions are successfully received by the deadline. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible after the deadline, and not later than January 1, 2010, whether they have been accepted as participants.
